Since inception in 2018, the committee’s main goal has been to sustain a healthy department climate on all fronts and to keep diversity, equity and inclusion at the center of the department’s policies and practices.
The committee has been successful in several initiatives, including:
- Developing a plan for Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC),
- Initiating fee waivers for prospective graduate students
- AccessComputing
- Co-hosting faculty/student mixers,
- Participating in the LEAP Alliance, an NSF-funded BPC effort to diversify future leadership in the field
Future initiatives will include community-building events, training and town halls for students, faculty, and staff.
The department also sponsors travel to the Grace Hopper Celebration and the National Society of Black Engineers conference.
